How did it comes about?

A decade ago, I experienced an unforgettable semester abroad in the US. Upon my return and sorting through my photos, I realized something: I had captured a large amount of lettering. I was particularly taken with the bright neon signs and the distinctive lettering on vintage cars. Soon, numerous letterings on buildings here in Germany caught my eye as well, and of course I immediately had to capture them photographically. Over time, my archive has grown to over 3,000 pictures.

Even during my vacations, I always keep my camera ready to discover new lettering. There is no map on which all these treasures are recorded, because they come and go in constant change. Since 2016, I’ve shared my passion on social media and discovered that I’m not alone in my enthusiasm for typographic art in urban spaces. There are countless people who share the same fascination. > Look t my instagram

Many of the typefaces I photographed back then have since disappeared. But my photos remain and thus also carry a valuable documentary character. The comparison between different countries is particularly fascinating – the design and materials used reveal interesting differences when looked at closely. These letterings are not only works of art, but also contemporary witnesses that give us an insight into bygone eras.
